Valid entries and labels | |
Notes | A response to the question is required if the following codes were used for Q1 (Student.ALLACT): 1 'Working full-time' or 2 'Working part-time and the HE leaver works outside the UK'. UK codes can only be used when it is not possible to determine a UK postcode but the country of work is known. For example: a HE leaver is based in both London and Bristol and should be coded XF 'England'. The text completed by the HE leaver in Q11 should be used to determine a valid code. This coding frame is determined from the National Statistics Country Classification (NSCC), which is based on ISO 3166-1 Codes for the Representation of Names of Countries and their Subdivisions, and the United Nations' Standard Country or Area Codes for Statistical Use. In a small number of cases, the NSCC usage differs from the usage in ISO 3166 on which the NSCC is based. Where that happens, the ISO 3166 usage is given in brackets after the preferred UK usage, to facilitate cross-reference to the international standard. For example for code KR the description is Korea (South). The text in brackets, [Korea, Republic of], is the ISO 3166 description. Information in braces is provided by HESA to clarify usage, and is not derived either from NSCC or ISO 3166 lists of short country names, for example Spain {includes Ceuta, Melilla}. Where HESA publishes domicile and nationality data it does so using the National Statistics Country Classification 2006 (NSCC) code labels. HESA includes the ISO 3166-1 description [text in brackets] and additional information {text in braces} within the valid entry labels to ensure that labeling standards, both UK and international, are available only for cross-referencing. HESA does not insist that HEIs display these additional descriptions in their own output. The information captured relates to what the HE leaver considers to be their MAIN job. It is important that ALL of the information provided in Employment.EMPNAME, Employment.EMPBASIS, Employment.EMPPLACE, Employment.EMPPCODE, Employment.EMPCOUNTRY, and Employment.MAKEDO is returned to assist in the allocation of a SIC code. The SIC 2007 valid entries and labels are based on the UK Standard Industrial Classification 2007 (UK SIC 2007) four digit class and five digit subclass levels as identified in the Office for National Statistics (ONS) UK Standard Industrial Classification 2007 web page 'Main volume' (PDF). For a valid return either Employment.EMPPCODE or Employment.EMPCOUNTRY must be returned. If nothing is returned for Employment.EMPPLACE, Employment.EMPPCODE, and Employment.EMPCOUNTRY the response will not be valid. |
